5th Evenue: T&co

Charles Louis Tiffany (1812-1902) aveva fondato nel 1837,

 nel quartiere di Manhattan, la prima storica sede della 

“Tiffany & Co”, in società con John B. Young, che trattava

 svariati articoli (non solo la gioielleria per la quale è divenuta

 famosa, ma anche antiquariato, argenteria e cancelleria).

Charles Louis Tiffany (1812-1902) had founded in 1837,

  in the borough of Manhattan, the historic seat of the first

"Tiffany & Co", in partnership with John B. Young, who sold  

  several objects (not just for jewelry which has taken

  famous, but also antiques, silverware and stationery).

Dotato di innato fiuto per gli affari, egli approfittò di una

 diminuzione dei prezzi dei diamanti durante le rivoluzioni

europee di metà secolo, e nel corso della Guerra Civile

 Americana si dedicò anche alla produzione di spade militari.

La sua dedizione costante fu rivolta a sviluppare la sua arte ed

 offrire alla ricca clientela i prodotti migliori per design e 

materiali; egli riuscì, così, nell’intento di fare del proprio

 negozio un importante centro d’attrazione per i clienti più

 prestigiosi: fra gli acquirenti del magazzino nella 5th Evenue vi

furono presidenti, re e regine, che vi trovavano gli omaggi per

 le visite dei capi di stato.

Equipped with an innate business sense, he took advantage of a

  decline in diamond prices during the European revolutions

in mid-century, and during the Civil War

he dedicated to the production of military swords.

His unflagging dedication was given to developing his art and

  offer customers the best products for full design and

materials, and he did so, in order to do

  an important and attractive business center for the most

  prestigious buyers...In the stock in 5th Evenue there

were Presidents, kings and queens, there were tributes and

  visiting by heads of state.

 Louis Comfort Tiffany rilevò l’azienda del padre (nel 1902,

 anno della morte di quest’ ultimo), la catena di negozi da lui

creata era un’impresa di grandi dimensioni, con circa 1000

 dipendenti; la “Tiffany & Co” di Charles Louis eLouis

 Comfort fu il nucleo di quel impero globale quale è oggi, con

 7000 dipendenti in tutto il mondo ed un fatturato di 2,6 miliardi

 di dollari .

Fra i designer più talentuosi che lavorarono per la “Tiffany & 

Co”, si posso annoverare Donald Claflin,  Elsa Peretti e

Paloma Picasso.
